Light and Fluffy Vanilla Bean Tea Biscuits

Have you ever watched the BBC produced show Downton Abby? If not, you must watch it.  It is the BEST show EVER.   This show will make you want to boil some water and make some tea!  Or you could go for tea….

Usually when my Mom comes to town, we pop on over to the Chateau Laurier and have a spot of tea.  It’s all fancy and stuff…. With the tea cart and the mini crustless sandwiches….. and the tea biscuits!!!

I have never tasted something so sweet and light.  It’s like biting into a cloud!  No really if it’s after 3pm you have to pop over to the Chateau Laurier and have some Maple tea and a tea biscuit….What’s that?  You don’t live near the Chateau Laurier ?  Hmmm .. well you could make these.

The other weekend I was dreaming about high tea at the Chateau,  and these TEA BISCUITS.  So I went on an internet search and finally found them…. or something really similar.

Make them! Like, right now!  And then call me cause I’m coming over.  I’ll bring the Tea!

Light and Fluffy Vanilla Bean Tea Biscuits

[Adapted from http://www.recipesecrets.net/forums/drink-recipes/41354-sweet-tea-biscuits.html%5D

2 Cups of flour
4 Tablespoons of baking powder
1/2 Cup of sugar
1 Teaspoon salt
1/2 Cup of butter or margarine
2/3 Cup of milk
1 Vanilla Bean
1 Egg and milk for brushing the tops of the biscuits

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Mix flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a medium bowl.

Mix in the butter, until crumbly.

Cut the vanilla bean with a sharp knife, down the center.  Split the bean open and scrap the seeds out.  Add to the butter mixture until combines

Add the milk until the dough comes together.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface, until the dough is 1 ½ to 2 inches thick.

Using a round cookie cutter or glass, cut out the biscuits.

Place the biscuits in a round metal pan (8-9 inch cake pan is fine.) Brush the tops of the biscuits with the egg and milk wash.  This will make the tops golden brown.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.

Serve warm with butter and jam.  Oh and a cup of tea.  I’ll be there shortly.
